Derin was born in Coffee County, Tennessee, but has lived most of his life in Central Illinois. He grew up in Rochester, near Springfield. As an alumnus of the University of Illinois, he continues to bleed orange and blue and enjoys tailgating at football games in the fall and braving the cold to drive to the occasional hoops game at the State Farm Center. Derin began his practice of ObGyn in Decatur in 1993, then started doing mission work in Honduras 20 years later. His faith has continued to grow as he has provided primary care and occasional podiatric services to the people of LaCeibita. In the past few years, he has been fortunate enough to be able to provide surgical services in Tocoa, performing C-sections, hysterectomies, pelvic floor reconstructions, and sterilizations. He believes wherever God points him, he is ready to serve!
